For thirty years, CEJIL has worked alongside human rights defenders, standing up against serious violations of human rights.  CEJIL’s development of legal standards and collaboration with the universal and Inter-American legal systems, the academic world, and other key actors in the administration of justice makes it well-positioned to lead this initiative and gather different perspectives to consider novel and proactive structural strategies for the protection of human rights defenders globally.

Multiple individuals and human rights organizations agree on the need to fight threats and impunity for them from new angles. Over the past several years, they have come together to work through a series of committees and contribute to this initiative.
